What is the best product to clean rims with? ›

The best wheel cleaners in 2024 are Turtle Wax T-18, Meguiar's Ultimate All Wheel Cleaner, WeatherTech TechCare, Chemical Guys Diablo Gel, and Adam's Polishes wheel cleaner. A bottle of wheel cleaner costs around $20 and should clean about 20 wheels or last 5 cleaning sessions.

Wheels & tires first

You'll want to clean these before the paint because they're typically the dirtiest part of your vehicle. Plus, if you wait to clean them until the end of your wash you'll run the risk of splashing dirt & brake dust back onto the clean paint.

The product we recommend to our detailers is Americana Breakdown – but you can use a high-quality, pH neutral degreasing spray on your tires and wheels. Spray the degreaser along the entire tire, inside, outside, and the entire tread. Use a tire brush to agitate the degreaser over the entire surface.

3) Using acidic cleaners (or common dish soap)

Acid will scrub off the brake dust; we'll give you that. But a clear coat will go away along with the dust. And we don't want that to happen. The clear coat protects the rim and makes it look nice.

Secondly, apply the WD-40 Multi-Use Product onto a Cleaning Cloth. Begin to rub the entire surface of the alloy wheel, focus on the areas with remaining stubborn grime or brake dust. Please be advised this should be applied using a cloth to avoid getting any on the wheel or brake pads.

Yet when it comes to your rims, you could use a pressure washer on these. However, we have noticed that the pressure washer doesn't clean all the residue that has been left on it due to breaking. So you will still likely need to apply some soap and leave that for a few minutes, then go back in with some soapy water.

Then you could simply use water but if you haven't cleaned your wheels in months, perhaps the water will not have enough cleaning power to dissolve the brake dust. You can also use regular car soap to clean your wheels.

Let your new rims dry for at least 24 hours before taking them out on the road. Once dry, your new rims will withstand rain, car washes, and regular wear and tear from driving. REMOVE: When you're ready to remove the paint from your rims, slowly rub an outer edge of the paint until it starts to peel up.

However, it is important to note that using dish soap on alloy wheels can potentially dull the finish if it is not used correctly. Dish soap is designed to remove grease and dirt from dishes and is effective in breaking down and removing similar types of grime from alloy wheels.

How to make rims look new? ›

Get rid of road dirt, grease and tar by using a degreaser and cleaners like dish detergent and baking soda! Mix your dish detergent with equal parts water and clean your rims using a soft cloth. Then sprinkle baking soda on the rough side of a sponge and go over your rims again, and finally rinse off.
